The MobileVideoNet Foundation
Our transformation from media experiment to cultural foundation is nearly completed. We have been occupied with this for quite a while, but soon we will present our new activities and website.
An extra feature will be the opportunity for indivudual artists, initiatives and institutes to create their own VideoArea. For non-profit events our Bluetooth track-and-push system can be used free of charge. In return we would like to archive the project at this website.
We will also be aiming to achieve other ways to show 3gp video in public space. For this purpose we're searching for additional crewmembers and/or participants. Interested? Contact us

MobileVideoNet, a little history
MobileVideoNet originated from the perceived possibilities for video in public space, alternative distribution and personal interaction. The 3gp medium challenged us and participating artists in approaching the low quality file format in a creative way. We like to think that the restrictions of size, length and image quality provided new possibilities for the video format in general and showed the emergence of a new breed of video. Short videos, fragments almost, are broadcasted to personal media, confronting people with another type of information that they are accustomed to. The 3gp videos have the power to amuse, irritate or surprise the viewer and not to direct, prohibit or explain anything - like general messages in public space.
From the very beginning we were interested in making a group effort. Although we developed the concept and Bluetooth system as private artists, the decision to try to open up this new distribution channel was made instantly. During this time we worked closely together with other institutes and initiatives. Sometimes for the co-effort of producing 3gp videos, but we have also handed out the content for some particular VideoAreas. Recently we decided to take that even further and open up the platform as a whole.
Many thanks to all participants,
Gerco Lindeboom and Danny Jeroense.
